Gov Christie Blocks Saturday Sun: Foils Manhattanhenge?
Saturday night: Manhattanhenge, Super Moon & Pi In The Sky
A spectacular sunset was expected on this cosmic evening. Manhattanhenge and a Super Moon had New York City and social media buzzing. Start the sky hype with the largest art project in the city's history, "Pi in the Sky" which wrote the first 314 digits of π (Pi) with sky-typing planes in huge numerals, visible over 15 miles, and this evening was going to be historic for sky and science geeks.This was until New Jersey Governor Chris Christie allegedly rolled out his sun blocking cloud machine, foiling Manhattanhenge, disappointing a million sky gazers. Christie was unavailable for comment but prior allegations of disrupting New York traffic has him as the prime suspect. Mother Nature, who was on 34th street, was looking forward to the sunset and denied any responsibility for these rogue clouds.
No rain date has been announced and the next official Manhattanhenge is May 2015.

Forgotten Brooklyn Volcano dormant for 3 million years back to life
Tornadoes. Earthquakes. Hurricanes. and Volcanos?
A long forgotten volcano grumbled on Sunday, much to the surprise of the neighborhood hipsters. While Tropical Storm Irene pounded the surface, magma churned away a few miles below.
Yes, minor seismic activity has been detected in New York City. The Brooklyn volcano was thought to be inactive and therefore long forgotten but it seems a volcano grows in Brooklyn
A full eruption is not expected for hundreds of years, geologists warn this can accelerate and be the next Eyjafjallajökull, referring to the Icelandic volcano that erupted twice in 2010 and disrupted air traffic across Europe.
The Brooklyn volcano is fed by a magma chamber that runs under the Gowanus Expressway, which in turn derives from the tectonic divergence of the Greenwood area. It is part of a chain of little known volcanoes spotting the New York region including North Beacon Mountain, Mt. Tremper and Watkins Glen. Geologists are keeping a close eye on this developing event. Expect volcano themed coffee, beer and tee shirts to follow.

New York Times Wins Five Pulitzer Prizes
NEW YORK — The New York Times won five Pulitzer Prizes in journalism on Monday, the second-most in its history. It was a bittersweet victory for The Times as all five writers had been laid off their awards are being added to 101 other Pulitzers that were won over the years, the first awarded in 1917 and being sold on eBay to pay late utility bills.
Other icons of industry in New York are fighting the economy too, The Empire State Building has assessed a $5 look up zone around the skyscraper on 34 Street to anyone walking while looking up. According to building officials, it is a nominal fee and only applies to a small percentage of passersby.
The New York MTA is implementing a pay as you go fee, deputizing subway break dancers to collect $1 surcharge per passenger or walk. This will not apply during rush hours or after 2am.
And the familiar yellow cabs are going high tech. If you ride a yellow cab, it's going to cost you to turn down the volume on the in-cab video screens. $1 for every db, up to $5 for mute.
Everyone is being affected by tough times, help stimulate the economy and recycle your unused Pulitzers, Emmys, Grammys and other gold awards.
